Glenville, North Carolina

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, we drove up to the mountains in North Carolina to stay in a cabin we had rented for the kids spring break. Even though school has gone to distance learning for the past few weeks, we all agreed we still wanted to try to make this trip happen if possible. So we brought everything we needed including Hobbes and Lucky and groceries for the week, and drove the 3 hours up to Glenville to our cabin and yurt. Our view from the property was just amazing. We arrived on a Monday and left on Friday. Andrew and Hobbes slept in the yurt right by the cabin. The rest of us stayed in the main cabin which was so neat and had lots of fun games and a cute little kitchen. We played Yahtzee, Operation, Dog Bingo, and National Park monopoly.

We drove to nearby Panthertown Valley Trail to hike twice. Both times, the hikes were fun and even a little bit strenuous for everyone, and our reward at the end was a beautiful waterfall. We packed a picnic lunch one day, and had such a nice time enjoying nature. We only saw one other person the whole time on the trails, so it was neat feeling like the forest was just ours.

Outside we made fires in the firepit, roasted s'mores, played cornhole, tossed the football, had light saber battles with wooden light sabers, and lots more. It was so nice just enjoying being in a beautiful setting and not having anything on our agendas besides being with each other. It felt very simple and good. The mountain air was fresh and we were right by a Christmas tree farm which was also really cool.
