Andrew started nursery school this week. They call the first week "settling in" week and each day he goes for a bit longer until he's up to the full 9 to 1 schedule. Yesterday he stayed for one hour and I was there the whole time. Today he stayed for two hours and I had to pretend to leave but really went to a room upstairs just in case he freaked out. Tomorrow will be three hours (and I may actually get to leave the premises!) and then the last day of settling in week he will be there by himself the whole time. During settling in week the child is supposed to go every day, but from then on he will be going just three mornings a week. I really like this settling in approach and early childhood care/education here in general. I feel like all the child minders here are like the super nanny lady, both sweet and stern at the same time. They are respected by the children, but are also quick to offer praise and seem to genuinely care about their jobs and the little people entrusted to them during the day. So far I couldn't be more pleased. And relieved. And a bit of a basket case watching Andrew being so brave and adjusting so well.
Here are a few pictures from his first day...
Thankfully Mimi is in town to help during this week.
Nate is really excited about his big brother's first day of school.
Morning coffee before school. Just kidding, hot chocolate.
He looks JUST like Serg here.
Welcome to school Andrew!
Big plus: they serve the kids lunch so I don't have to pack it. Big minus: Tuesday's lunch is liver in gravy. We'll see how that goes...
We are ridiculously proud of this kid.
So, how was liver and gravy day?
ReplyDeleteHa! So he didn't have to stay for lunch that day. But he is NOT a fan of the food. they use no salt and do alot of veggies and curries. i always bring him a little snack when i pick him up because he's always hungry :)
