Jailbreak

While my parents (Mimi and Apple to the boys) were here, we made a weekend escape to Paris, just Serg and I. It was, in a word, glorious. As Serg said when we were waiting for our Eurostar train, "This feels more like a jailbreak than a vacation." Which tells me that we really needed something like this. My other favorite quote of his from the weekend was "This city is just stupid pretty." Totally true. Everywhere you look, there is a beautiful building, statue, or fountain. It seems like every structure in that city has some ornate design on it. We were amazed at the opulence of it all.

We stayed at a hotel close to the Eiffel Tower in an area called the Rue Cler. After getting in late Thursday night we got a good night's sleep and slept in the next morning until- wait for it- 10:00!!! We spent this day leisurely walking the city, our main stops being the tower and the Louvre (Serg's 2 picks). It was quite hot that day, so we took frequent breaks at restaurants and shady parks to relax and read. That night we had a nice dinner close to our hotel.

Next day our destinations were Champs Elysees (totally had to google that to make sure I spelled it right) and a district of Paris called Le Marais (googled that too) that was recommended to us. These were my two choices. We each picked two things we wanted to be sure to see so we weren't overwhelmed and didn't feel like we missed out on anything important. This was another really nice day. Spending time together as a couple, rather than as parents, was really nice for a change. By the end of the weekend we were ready to see our little meatballs though!

And of course, some pictures...

At the London Eurostar station. All ready for the Olympics!

I love this picture as it will always remind us of leisurely walking the streets of Paris
